Dictators vs. Fly Society

DIVISION 1

Sam of the Dictators led the way as he  knocked down  2 3-pointers for a total of 14 points and 12 rebounds. For the second straight week Lonnie assisted the scoring load with 11 points and 7 rebounds while Tongun rounded out the scoring trio with 6 points. The Dictators had no defensive answer for  Robert Aguilar and the dribble-drive penetration of Fly Society, and the final result a 61-45 loss in favor of Fly Society.

Robert Aguilar was lights out in the 2nd half as he finished with 15  points to lead the way for Fly SocietyJairo Lopez  & Ralph Chavez finished the game with 10 points apiece to assist Aguilar. GM Desean Collins rounded out the top 4 with 9 points.

I Ball vs. Do Work

DIVISION 1

I Ball almost pulls an upset over veteran team Do Work but the seasoned vets find a way to pull away late behind the sharp shooting of Donte Smith and pull out the W as Do Work  defeats I Ball  77-65.

Adam led the way for Do Work in the scoring column and he finished with, 18 points and 10 rebounds. Edwin and Aaron Singleton finished with 16 points apiece while Donte Smith rounded out the top 4 with 14 points, having his worst shooting performance going 3-10 (30%) from behind the 3 point line.

Steven Sanchez notched  a team-high 21 points and pulled in 7 rebounds, Wilson Fiallos chipped in 20 points and  9 rebounds.  Mike finished with 13 points and 3 rebounds, while D finished with 11 points.

Speed Kills vs. Canyon City

DIVISION 1

For the second consecutive week Speed Kills took the court to battle it out with a rookie team to the IBL, Canyon City. The game was a nail bitter but in the end Canyon City  came away with a narrow 55-54 win.

Tony El-Asar led the way for his team as he recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Dimon also finished with 15 points and 2 boards going 3-10 from beyond the arc. Rassan was the third leading scorer as he finished with 8 points to round out the scoring trio.

Travis Campbell went to work in the 2nd half and he finished with 21 points, and 9 rebounds. Marlo Valencia knocked down 2 three-pointers and finished with 16 points.  While Carl Agcamaran rounded out the scoring trio with his 12 points shooting 4-14 from the field.

STAT vs. Morningwood

DIVISION 1

STAT garnered an early advantage in the first half, coming out fired up and pulling out to a 15 point lead, but behind a strong second half behind Derrick Pickett and Dewayne O’Neal the Champs found a way to pull the W out, defeat STAT 56-50.

Anthony Fitzpatrick led STAT with 14 points, 10 rebounds.  Danny Longmire finished with 12 points and 13 boards and Anthony Cockrell rounded out the top 3 with 7 points and 4 rebounds.

Dewayne O’Neal was crucial down the stretch as he grabbed key rebounds, he finished with a double-double, 13 points, 14 rebounds. The Pickett Brothers (Diahnte and Derrick) were really the story of the game as they dominated the paint with countless layups, they both finished with 14 points apiece to guide the defending champs to a season opening victory.

Washed Up vs. Knicee

DIVISION 1

The veteran Knicee team took care of business over a promising but Rookie squad  Washed Up  , 73-53.

Richard Coombs led Washed Up with 26 points, 9 rebounds.  Mike Criscione finished with 3 rebounds and he was the second leading scorer with 9 points.

Marcus Angeles was the leading scorer Knicee and he finished with 22 points. John Dang had 8 rebounds and finished with 13 points and 5 assists.  While Odell Howard rounded out the scoring trio with his 11 points shooting 4-4 from the field.

1. Morningwood (2-0)

The CHAMPS Morningwood defeated STAT for the second time in 5 weeks. Solid defense (allowing only 50 pts) and even distribution of the ball allowed the team to dominate the second half.

2. Do Work (2-0)

The Former Champs Do Work had to play catch-up against IBall in Week 2, but a strong defensive stance in the end helped the team pull away with the victory.

3. Knicee (2-0)

Knicee created a lot of buzz around the league by beating the Dictators with a 6’1 and under roster in Week 1(for the most part). The team is ranked 4th in total defense (in terms of points allowed) and #2nd in offense

4. I Ball (1-1)

I Ball is looking to be the bully on the block, but so far they’ve had predictable performances, a blowout win over Speed Kills and a blowout loss to Do Work, this team is in between and I have yet to see a defining performance from this team.

5. STAT (1-1)

STAT‘s inability to get rebounds ultimately hurt the team’s chance of staying close in Week 2. Anthony Fitzpatrick kept it close with his cuts to the basket and easy lay-ups but 36 rebounds for the entire game is not going to cut it against most teams. STAT  needs to box-out or they’ll be out rebounded in Week 3.

6. Fly Society (1-1)

Fly Society did not dwell over their Week 1 nail-biting 1 point loss and quickly got back to Work in Week 2 defeating the Dictators. Fly Society has a lot of explosive weapons and their leading scorer (through 2 games) – Ralph Chavez, averages 12 ppg and is 9th in rebounds with 10.5 rpg.

7. Canyon City Basketball (1-1)

In Week 2, Canyon City scored a season high of 55 points, just one point enough to seal the victory. For Week 3, the team will have a shot at pulling its first upset when they square off against the #2 ranked 2-0 team Knicee.

8. Speed Kills (0-2)

For Week 3, Speed Kills  will need to put more points to counter their defensive struggles. They scored a season high 54 points last week in a loss, but have allowed 107 points in their first 2 games. A strong defense should be this team’s main concern entering Week 3.

9. Dictators (0-2)

The Dictators are just missing that second piece behind Tongun, to be a viable threat in the division.  Their first loss a 61-59 nail bitter to Knicee really shows how this team can score, but defending is the problem, lack of guard play really is the down fall for this team.

10. Washed Up (0-2)

Washed Up had only 6 players in their IBL début (Week 2), but finished strong in both games regardless of the outcome.
