2011 SUMMER, SEASON 5

Week 4

I BALL vs. Fly Society

DIVISION 1

I Ball proves to be another hitch on the road to the playoffs for Fly Society.  I Ball seemed to have more cohesiveness than the slumping Fly Society who came up just short for the second consecutive week and lose the game 62-47.  I Ball improves to 2-2 while Fly Society falls to 1-3 with their playoff hopes in jeopardy. Week 5 is crucial for both teams.

Tony Bell notched  a team-high 19 points and pulled in 14 rebounds to record his 2nd consecutive double-double . Mike chipped in 12 points and  8 rebounds after a stellar Week. 3 performance.  Damion and Les Shepard rounded out the scoring quartet and  finished with 10 points apiece, Shepard also had 9 rebounds.

GM Desean Collins led all Fly Society scorers with 19 points on (7/13) shooting. He was the only player on his team to see double figures in the scoring column. Jaime Villalobos pulled in 18 rebounds but finished with a mere 7 points.  Robert Aguilar was the second leading scorer as he finished with 8 points, 7 boards.  For the second consecutive week Anthony Anderson hit multiple 3 pointers, he is becoming a reliable source on offense.

Fly Society will enter week 5 with a (1-3) record in desperate need for a win to get back into the playoff picture.

I Ball (2-2)  enters Week 5 with tied with Washed up for the #5 spot in the Division standings.

STAT vs. Do Work

DIVISION 1

STAT came out unenthusiastic and unable to find a way to penetrate Do Works stifling 3-2 defense. The first quarter was very flat for this talented STAT team to score only 6 points on a depleted Do Work roster.  As the second quarter started this young STAT team took what Do Work gave them, and hit open shots and rebounded the ball well to recover from the first quarter deficit and take the lead going into halftime. Do Work would not recapture the lead or come close to doing so as STAT takes the game 56-35.

The STAT team was led by Anthony Fitzpatrick  20 points, 9 rebounds.  Danny Longmire finished with 10 points and 9 boards, Kwasi Mensah and Anthony Cockrell finished with 7 points and 4 boards each.

With last seasons leading scorer Kenneth Ubom taking the season off, and the teams leading scorer this season (Donte Smith) showing up to only the 2 out of the first 4 games Do Work has had some trouble on the offensive end this season.  The team has balanced scoring for the game, however no player scored double figures.  Cole and Ronnie led the way with 8 points apiece, Dominic and Aaron Singleton had 6 apiece to round out the top 4 scorers.

STAT (3-1) moves into Week 5 on a 2 game win streak, this team could easily be 4-0 with their one loss coming at the hands of the defending champs (Morningwood) by 6 points in Week 2.

Do Work (3-1) seems to be on a downward spiral as an anonymous source has told me they no longer have the services on SG Donte Smith. With Smith out of the line-up offense will be at a minimum for this team.

Speed Kills vs. Dictators

DIVISION 1

With both teams eager to capture their first win,  Speed Kills manages to capture the lead late in the fourth quarter to squeeze out a close game and defeat the Dictators 57-56 in a nail biter.

Mike led the way for Speed Kills with 13 points , André was the second leading scorer with 11 points, Di’mon was the third leading scorer as he finished with 10 points to round out the scoring trio, team GM Tony El-Asar  finished the game with 9 points and 1 board, his team now moves into the #8 and final playoff spot with their 1-3 record.

The Dictators had a dominant performance from Andrew in the post, he finished with 22 points, 9 rebounds with the majority of his buckets coming in the paint. Craig and Tongun finished with 9 points apiece to round out the scoring trio for the Dictators. This team could easily be 2-2 with 2 of their 3 losses by a combined 3 points.

The Dictators (0-4) are still very much in the playoff hunt, but they do not control their own destiny, they need other teams to record more L’s or else their season is over.

Speed Kills (1-3) looks to build on their first win as they enter Week 5.

Knicee vs. Morningwood

DIVISION 1

With their Star/ SF Derrick Pickett injured just minutes into this game, Morningwood had other key players step up and  hold off a late second half run from  the then undefeated and division leading Knicee team to come away with a  69-63 win.

John Dang was the leading scorer for  Knicee as he finished with 13 rebounds and 18 points, Richard Hak and Marcus Angeles  scored 15 points apiece . Odell Howard did not contribute much on the offensive end but finished with a game high 20 rebounds.

Dewayne O’Neal has been the key to Morningwoods success this season; in this game he was a big body that Knicee could not seem to contain, he finished with 12 points, 15 rebounds . Marcus Pringle had one of his better games of the season and finished with 15 points shooting 3/7 from beyond the 3 point line.  Along with Pringle,  Rich Cobarrubias had a great shooting performance shooting 3/6 (50%) from behind the 3 point line for 13 points. Diahnte Pickett was the story for this team, he finished with a game high 27 points and 5 rebounds.

Morningwood will be without the service of SF Derrick Pickett for 4-6 Weeks who sprained his ankle in the fist quarter of this game.

Morningwood (4-0) enters Week 5 as the only undefeated team in the Division, the Champs have a target on their back and everyone is out to get them.

Knicee (3-1)  now goes back to the drawing board as they try to regroup after this loss.

Canyon City Basketball vs. Washed Up

DIVISION 1

Washed Up carries the momentum from their Week 3 win and shows Canyon City Basketball they’re the rookie team to beat in the IBL.  Washed Up comes away with a 56-43 victory.

Richard Coombs led Washed Up with 19 points, 15 rebounds.  Tony finished with 4 rebounds, 4 assists  and he was the second leading scorer with 14 points. Ameer was the third leading scorer with 13 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Canyon City Basketball had a balanced offensive attack with Phil Conklin leading the way with 11 points.  Travis Campbell and Marlo Valencia finished with 10 points apiece  and Carl Agcamaran rounded out the scoring quartet with his 8 points  shooting a combined 4-8 (50%) from the field.

Washed Up (2-2) have slid into the #5 spot in the standings looks to continue their winning ways in Week 5.

Canyon City (1-3) now falls to the #9 spot and are only 1 game out of the 8th a final playoff spot.
