IBL | Season 6 | Week 3 Recap | Division 3

DIVISION 3

2011 Fall, SEASON 6

Week 3

by Nathan Apolonio/ @NDAx92

With 3 weeks behind us, there is only one team undefeated in the division and that would be UKnow V.2 their style of play is similar to last seasons Minnesota Tenderloins, the only difference is that UKnow V.2 is stacked with offensive talent and many slashers, with the rumored departure of Robel Kevorkian this team has taken a huge hit. With the loss the Pantera Legends fall to 2nd place with a 2-1 record, on paper they should have run the table, but their team isn’t that deep. GM Richard Hak told me in a brief discussion “Shooting three-point shots will not get you by in the playoffs”. He may be right but at the moment, if the shots are falling and the W’s are piling up UKnow V.2 will not change their game plan. Other than those two teams at the top, I’d say the Dirty Homies and the Justice League are next up on the list of contenders. Both teams are at 2-1 and are a lock for the playoffs even after 3 games played.

Bombers vs. Justice League

DIVISION 3

After suffering a heartbreaking loss in Week 2 to the Pantera Legends the Justice League regrouped and came back in Week 3 with a vengeance. They defeated the Bombers, 38 – 51 behind the stellar play of Leomar Locholo who finished with a team high 20 points.

Leomar Locholo led the way for the Justice League,  Locholo finished with 20 points, 4 boards and 2 assists. Mark Sy-Santos and Josey Victorio assisted Locholo with the scoring load and finished  with 10 points apiece. The scoring was split semi evenly among the three individuals. John Robel (5.3 rpg) led the team in rebounding with 7 boards.  Through the first 3 games the Justice League’s record stands at 2-1 with their one loss coming in Week 2 to the hands of the Pantera Legends. This team is filled with talent but they’re only 6 men deep. With the deadline to sign players already passed, this team will have to tough it out for the remainder of the season.

Dirty Homies vs. Prospectz

DIVISION 3

With the departure of last seasons top 2 scorers, the Prospectz had some figuring out to do, management restocked the roster with hopes of an opening week win. They hung tough throughout the game and managed to put up 59 points but fell to the Dirty Homies,  65 – 59.

Mario (17.0 ppg) led all Dirty Homie scorers with 17 points. The big man in the middle Chuy Contreras didn’t have his usual offensive outburst, he did however manage to come away with 4 points and led the team in rebounds with 10 boards. Free Agent Signee Charlie Hinojosa assisted Mario with the scoring load and finished with 9 points and 4 rebounds. Hinojosa also converted a jaw dropping alley-oop play during the game.  Jesse G. rounded out the scoring trio with 9 points and 2 rebounds.

Christopher Adevoso  led the Prospectz with 18 points and 2 rebounds shooting (6/11) from downtown , assisting Adevoso was the TerMINHator Minh Thong, Thong finished with 14 points and a game high 15 rebounds. Anthony finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds. The lefty Joel Torres rounded out the scoring quartet with a quiet 10 points and 7 boards.

Pantera Legends vs. UKnow V.2

DIVISION 3

Behind their sharpshooting the young men of UKnow V.2 surge late to hold off the reigning champions Pantera Legends, 56 – 60. The Legends had an opportunity to take the lead in the final seconds with a 3 Pt. field goal attempt by Dylan Liebelt that ricocheted off the back of the rim.  UKnow managed to keep the rebounding battle considerably close, and eliminated most of the Legends second chance opportunities.

The Pantera Legends were led in scoring by the low post monster Anthony Barajas,  he finished with a game high 20 points and 7 rebounds. Alvin Trinh was the second leading scorer with 14 points, 4 rebounds. Last seasons MVP Dylan Liebelt rounded out the top 3 scorers with 8 points and 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

On the UKnow v.2 side of things were balanced. The speedy lefty Don Collins returned to the line-up after a one game absence and led all scorers with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Desean Collins was in a shooting slump in the first half but hit two clutch three-point shots in the second half to finish with 9 points and 3 rebounds. Brandon Kinard (10 points 6/6 from the free throw line) was a key factor in this game, his 4 clutch free throws in the final minute put UKnow V.2 on top and put the game of reach.

Lil’ H.A.M vs. The Bankers

DIVISION 3

Lil’ H.A.M aka Young Money opens their season the right way with a 46 – 40 victory over the Bankers.

Robert and Hung led all Banker scorers with 10 points and 5 rebounds apiece. Justin assisted the duo and finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Steven rounded out the scoring quartet with 7 points and 6 rebounds.

On the Lil’ H.A.M side of things Aaron Ford led all scorers with 20 points and 6 rebounds, the beast from the far east Jason Jaybron Trinh  was the second leading scorer with 14 points and 1 rebound. John rounded out the scoring trio with 10 points.

Lil’ H.A.M vs. Brea Jr. 7:30

DIVISION 3

In the second game of their Week 3 double-header Lil’ H.A.M falls to the fresh legs of Brea Jr. 7:30, 35 – 43. Brea Jr. 7:30 must have finally shown up on time to their game.

Won Lee led all Brea Jr. 7:30 scorers  with 12 points and 3 rebounds. David Lee assisted Won Lee with a near double-double 10 points and 7 rebounds. Max Chung rounded out the scoring trio with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

Lil’ H.A.M must not have been prepared for the “lock down defense” of Brea Jr. 7:30. After scoring 20 points in the first game, Aaron Ford finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Abdul was the teams second leading scorer with 11 points. Jason Trinh rounded out the scoring load with 5 points.

This team must have been in shambles when their star player Ashwin Sharma left to play with his Division 2 squad. Now I know why GM Jason Trinh is out stealing players from different teams, because his team lacks offensive talent. With that said a UKnow V.2 match-up with Lil H.A.M would be in order if Robel Kevorkian did indeed jump ship.
