IBL | Season 6 | Week 3 Recap | Division 2

2011 Fall, SEASON 6

Week 3

by Nathan Apolonio/ @NDAx92

Their isn’t much to say about the division, Wonton Soup remains at the top as usual. While Quiksilver and The Revenge sit in second place at 3-0. Every other team is jockeying for position as the season goes on. Sure we can make an argument, that The Revenge has played weak competition and shouldn’t be in the top 3..but I won’t go there…wait I just did. Quiksilver is the only viable contender I’ve seen so far that’s capable of competing with the restocked Wonton Soup team. All of these other teams are a bunch of noise…all bark no bite, hence the Double Dribble vs. Goonz game, the Goonz looked as if they could compete with their sleeves and high socks and fancy shirts, but when it came down to it, even their week trapping defense couldn’t stop the Pickett Bros. At the bottom of the division teams that aren’t well established are just jockeying for a spot to try to compete. Who knows what Week 4 holds…till then… #StayThirstyMyFriends

The Revenge vs. 5 Guys 1 Cup
DIVISION 2

The Revenge push their record to 3-0 by defeating 5 Guys 1 Cup, 43 – 32 in a Week 3 match up.

Han$um Goonz vs. Double Dribble

DIVISION 2

The Han$um Goonz prove to be no match for the wily veterans of Double Dribble and fall 40 – 54 in their Week 3 match up.

Diahnte “D-Smooth” Pickett  led all Double Dribble scorers  with 18 points and 4 rebounds. Andrae Lockett assisted his teammate and finished with 15  points, shooting 4/6 from downtown. Derrick “Slim” Pickett rounded out the top 3 scorers with 10 points and sauced the opposition by pulling in 7 boards.

Avant Foster (12 points, 5 rebounds), Odis Wishum (12 points, 5 rebounds) were the top 2 performers for the Goonz. Marcus Dillard rounded out the scoring load with 6 points, Dillard could have increased his scoring output but a terrible performance at the free throw line, led to this 6 point performance.

Secret Agents vs. Quiksilver

DIVISION 2

Just when the Secret agents felt they had their swagger and were poised to run the eastern conference, the conferences merged together and after their Week 1 beat down of the Warriors, they’ve run into the élite talent of the division. In Week 2 it was Double Dribble and in Week 3 they ran into the hungry Quiksilver team. This match-up seen Quiksilver come out with a 47-59 win.

Since last seasons playoffs Quiksilvers big man Harry Yoo has played his best basketball. Through 3 games Yoo is averaging (18.0 ppg and 8.3 rpg) in this week 3 game Yoo led all scorers  with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Brandon Kinard was the second leading scorer with 13 points, 5 rebounds, Kinard also dished out 5 assists. Anthony Barajas rounded out the top 3 scorers with 11 points and 1 rebound. A notable performer was Dominique Criss who finished 8 points on 3/6 shooting.

Wet Bandits vs. #JETS

DIVISION 2

The Wet Bandits is arguably one of the best 1-2 teams in the Division. They have a top 10 big man in Brandon Parham (16.0 ppg, 11.3 rpg) With that said, they took on the #JETS who recorded their first win in Week 2, the Bandits and the #JETS battled it out with the Bandits coming out on top 56 – 47.

A notable performer was Nigel Leos who finished with 7 points and 10 rebounds.

UKnow vs. X-Men

DIVISION 2

With the return of last season’s leading scorer Anthony Cockrell and the arrival of Jordan Block, things seemed to be a wrap for UKnow but it was all but a “wrap” in their Week 3 match-up with the X-Men. Cockrell wasn’t really feeling his offensive game too much and sat out the majority of the game, but behind the spark of Justin Nguyen and Jordan Blocks QUIET 30 points , they find a way to defeat the X-Men, 68 – 61.

The X-Men were led by Darren B who finished the game with 28 points and 8. Deante Smith finished 13 points, 5 rebounds. Oscar Pacheco and Charles Dmares rounded out the scoring trio with 6 points and 1 rebound apiece.

Jordan Block scored 30 points and 13 rebounds for UKnow. Jonathan Redmond assisted Block with the scoring load and finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.  Justin Nguyen rounded out the scoring trio with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Cali Raisins vs. Wonton Soup

DIVISION 2

With their fresh threads on the Cali Raisins fall to the defending champions Wonton Soup, 62 – 73. The margin of victory comes as a shock, because two of Wonton Soups offensive weapons (Jaime Villalobos and Desean Collins) weren’t in attendance for the game.

The Raisins were led in scoring by Dominic “Tiger Blood” Cortes he finished with a team high 28 points and 4 rebounds. Kwasi Mensah was the second leading scorer with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Kevin Tung and Matt Virata rounded out the top 4 scorers with 9 points apiece.

Wonton Soup was led by the “Jose Consecoesk effort” of Aaron “The Juice ” Sanchez, all kidding aside Sanchez finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Trevor Sankey was the second leading scorer with 15 points, and 6 rebounds. Jamie Johnson rounded out the top 3 scorers with 10 points.

Nut Crackers vs. Wonton Soup

DIVISION 2

In one of the final games of the evening Wonton Soup took care of the Nut Crackers handedly defeating them 62 – 83.

Wonton Soup was led by Aaron “The JUICEMAN” Sanchez, Sanchez finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Jamie Johnson was the second leading scorer with 14 points and 5 rebounds, Josh Johnson rounded out the top 3 scorers with 12 points.

Solin Bit finished with a team high, he logged in 17 points and 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.  Matt D.  assisted Bit with the scoring and finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Elias Salloum and Eric rounded out the scoring load with 10 points apiece, Salloum pulled in 13 rebounds to record his 1st double-double of the season, while Eric pulled in 9.

My comments at the top, were just good old fashioned ribbing, if you were offended by it, too bad life goes on.

2011 Fall, SEASON 6

Week 3

by Nathan Apolonio/ @NDAx92

With the first 3 weeks in the books, Washed Up sits atop of the division with a 3-0 record. They’re no longer flying under the radar..sorry Mike Criscione. Your team now has that target on their back, because other teams are definitely coming for that #1 spot! Knicee is now the Kenny Ubom show (it’s actually amazing to watch, he will outscore your entire team), but lets see how many more games he can win them where the second leading on the team has less the 8 points. After defeating the champs in the first game the Play Makerz became the favorite but quickly fell off in Week 2 with their loss to the Knicee aka T.K.U.S, they’ve however got back on their winning track. The Champs Morningwood are also working on getting their swagger back, and all the other teams are trying to find a place to fit in.

DIVISION 1

Ugh. TUPAC BACK! TUPAC BACK! there’s all these people screaming that tupac back! After a Week 1 loss, Tupac Back, extends their win streak to 2 games, after 95 – 62 romping of I Ball.

The Pack vs. Morningwood

DIVISION 1

Morningwood pushes their record to 2-1 after a 51 – 68 beat down of The Pack. This was just the type of game Morningwood needed to get back to their winning ways. With the talent level increasing and teams being stacked from top to bottom, Morningwood is the only team that has the exact roster from their S5 championship season (with the exception of Olumide Akingemi and Jesse Jimenez). Morningwood lost their first game to powerhouse the Play Makerz and almost let their Week 2 game with Filthy Empire slip away. This was just the game for these guys to play in to get their Swagger Back.

Diahnte Pickett aka D.Smooth led all Morningwood scorers with  18 points, Dewayne O’Neal and Olumide Akingemi were the teams second leading scorers, with 10 points, 9 boards apiece. Derrick Pickett rounded out the scoring trio with 10 points and 2 rebounds.

After a week of being in the Kenneth Ubom mixtape, the Play Makerz regrouped. Sadly they had to face the young and energetic Filthy Empire team, Filthy Empire was no match for the savvy Play Makerz team, the Play Makerz come away with an easy 61- 52 win.

Filthy Empire was led by the wily shooting guard Terrail Thomas who finished with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Ajay was the second leading scorer with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Aesh Dabbas notched a team-high 23 points pulled in 3 rebounds and dished out 1 assist. Amos Battle and Sean Rooks chipped in 12 points apiece. Carl Hardin and Nico Wilson finished with 6 points each to round out the scoring quintet of the Play Makerz.

Knicee vs. West Coast Pros

Knicee aka The Kenneth Ubom show  was on display this past sunday when the team took on the West Coast Pros. the two teams battled it out  in double overtime with the West Coast Pros. coming away with a hard-fought 47 – 55 victory.

Kenneth Ubom was the leading scorer for  Knicee as he finished with 30 points and 7 rebounds, Odell Howard and Pedro Colon rounded out the scoring load with 5 points apiece behind Ubom. Howard also had 8 rebounds while Colon pulled in 7 boards.

Shawn Layer led the way for West Coast with 16 points, 4 rebounds, he also had 2 monster dunks early in the 3rd quarter. That was probably the spark that his team needed. Daimon Fleming was the second leading scorer with 10 points and 1 rebound. Tyrell Goldsberry and Josh rounded out the scoring quartet with 8 points and 3 rebounds each.

IBL | Season 6 | Week 3 Recap | Division 3

DIVISION 3

2011 Fall, SEASON 6

Week 3

by Nathan Apolonio/ @NDAx92

With 3 weeks behind us, there is only one team undefeated in the division and that would be UKnow V.2 their style of play is similar to last seasons Minnesota Tenderloins, the only difference is that UKnow V.2 is stacked with offensive talent and many slashers, with the rumored departure of Robel Kevorkian this team has taken a huge hit. With the loss the Pantera Legends fall to 2nd place with a 2-1 record, on paper they should have run the table, but their team isn’t that deep. GM Richard Hak told me in a brief discussion “Shooting three-point shots will not get you by in the playoffs”. He may be right but at the moment, if the shots are falling and the W’s are piling up UKnow V.2 will not change their game plan. Other than those two teams at the top, I’d say the Dirty Homies and the Justice League are next up on the list of contenders. Both teams are at 2-1 and are a lock for the playoffs even after 3 games played.

Bombers vs. Justice League

DIVISION 3

After suffering a heartbreaking loss in Week 2 to the Pantera Legends the Justice League regrouped and came back in Week 3 with a vengeance. They defeated the Bombers, 38 – 51 behind the stellar play of Leomar Locholo who finished with a team high 20 points.

Leomar Locholo led the way for the Justice League,  Locholo finished with 20 points, 4 boards and 2 assists. Mark Sy-Santos and Josey Victorio assisted Locholo with the scoring load and finished  with 10 points apiece. The scoring was split semi evenly among the three individuals. John Robel (5.3 rpg) led the team in rebounding with 7 boards.  Through the first 3 games the Justice League’s record stands at 2-1 with their one loss coming in Week 2 to the hands of the Pantera Legends. This team is filled with talent but they’re only 6 men deep. With the deadline to sign players already passed, this team will have to tough it out for the remainder of the season.

Dirty Homies vs. Prospectz

DIVISION 3

With the departure of last seasons top 2 scorers, the Prospectz had some figuring out to do, management restocked the roster with hopes of an opening week win. They hung tough throughout the game and managed to put up 59 points but fell to the Dirty Homies,  65 – 59.

Mario (17.0 ppg) led all Dirty Homie scorers with 17 points. The big man in the middle Chuy Contreras didn’t have his usual offensive outburst, he did however manage to come away with 4 points and led the team in rebounds with 10 boards. Free Agent Signee Charlie Hinojosa assisted Mario with the scoring load and finished with 9 points and 4 rebounds. Hinojosa also converted a jaw dropping alley-oop play during the game.  Jesse G. rounded out the scoring trio with 9 points and 2 rebounds.

Christopher Adevoso  led the Prospectz with 18 points and 2 rebounds shooting (6/11) from downtown , assisting Adevoso was the TerMINHator Minh Thong, Thong finished with 14 points and a game high 15 rebounds. Anthony finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds. The lefty Joel Torres rounded out the scoring quartet with a quiet 10 points and 7 boards.

Pantera Legends vs. UKnow V.2

DIVISION 3

Behind their sharpshooting the young men of UKnow V.2 surge late to hold off the reigning champions Pantera Legends, 56 – 60. The Legends had an opportunity to take the lead in the final seconds with a 3 Pt. field goal attempt by Dylan Liebelt that ricocheted off the back of the rim.  UKnow managed to keep the rebounding battle considerably close, and eliminated most of the Legends second chance opportunities.

The Pantera Legends were led in scoring by the low post monster Anthony Barajas,  he finished with a game high 20 points and 7 rebounds. Alvin Trinh was the second leading scorer with 14 points, 4 rebounds. Last seasons MVP Dylan Liebelt rounded out the top 3 scorers with 8 points and 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

On the UKnow v.2 side of things were balanced. The speedy lefty Don Collins returned to the line-up after a one game absence and led all scorers with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Desean Collins was in a shooting slump in the first half but hit two clutch three-point shots in the second half to finish with 9 points and 3 rebounds. Brandon Kinard (10 points 6/6 from the free throw line) was a key factor in this game, his 4 clutch free throws in the final minute put UKnow V.2 on top and put the game of reach.

Lil’ H.A.M vs. The Bankers

DIVISION 3

Lil’ H.A.M aka Young Money opens their season the right way with a 46 – 40 victory over the Bankers.

Robert and Hung led all Banker scorers with 10 points and 5 rebounds apiece. Justin assisted the duo and finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Steven rounded out the scoring quartet with 7 points and 6 rebounds.

On the Lil’ H.A.M side of things Aaron Ford led all scorers with 20 points and 6 rebounds, the beast from the far east Jason Jaybron Trinh  was the second leading scorer with 14 points and 1 rebound. John rounded out the scoring trio with 10 points.

Lil’ H.A.M vs. Brea Jr. 7:30

DIVISION 3

In the second game of their Week 3 double-header Lil’ H.A.M falls to the fresh legs of Brea Jr. 7:30, 35 – 43. Brea Jr. 7:30 must have finally shown up on time to their game.

Won Lee led all Brea Jr. 7:30 scorers  with 12 points and 3 rebounds. David Lee assisted Won Lee with a near double-double 10 points and 7 rebounds. Max Chung rounded out the scoring trio with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

Lil’ H.A.M must not have been prepared for the “lock down defense” of Brea Jr. 7:30. After scoring 20 points in the first game, Aaron Ford finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Abdul was the teams second leading scorer with 11 points. Jason Trinh rounded out the scoring load with 5 points.

This team must have been in shambles when their star player Ashwin Sharma left to play with his Division 2 squad. Now I know why GM Jason Trinh is out stealing players from different teams, because his team lacks offensive talent. With that said a UKnow V.2 match-up with Lil H.A.M would be in order if Robel Kevorkian did indeed jump ship.
