Week 5

5 Weeks have come and gone and one thing that is very clear is that the 4x defending champs Morningwood seem very unlikely to complete their first 3-peat. With the strong/consistent play of Washed Up they’ve become the new favorite to take the divisions ultimate prize. They’re as fired up and hungrier than ever.  Morningwood although lacked that spark that gave them an advantage over the competition for the previous seasons. Morningwood was at the risk of getting embarrassed after they let a double-digit lead slip away and allowed the West Coast Pros. to believe they actually had a chance to win the game. If it wasn’t for Marcus Pringle’s leadership, Morningwood would have lost to a team with 4 active players. They just looked disinterested in the whole aspect the game. If they bring that type of performance when facing one of the divisions other top teams, expect the champs to have an early exit from the post season this time around.

P.A.H.U vs. The Pack

DIVISION 1

The Pack win their second game in 5 tries after they defeat P.A.H.U 64- 53. 

For P.A.H.U, Gary McNellys Jr. and Anthony led the way with 14 points and 7 rebounds each Mike and Damon finished with 8 points apiece. Greg rounded out the scoring load with 7 points, and 2 rebounds.

Tyler (19 points and 13 rebounds ) and Sam Nogales (19 points and 7 rebounds) led all scorers for The Pack,  George Lewis rounded out the top 3 scorers  with 10 points,  9 rebounds and 4 assists. Another notable performer for the pack in this game was Lonnie Rivera who finished with 8 points and 14 rebounds.

I Ball vs. The Dynasty

DIVISION 1

I Ball manages to slug it out in a heavyweight offensive battle and defensive struggle to come away with a 82 – 80 win. 

James led the way for IBall, finishing with 25 points and pulled in 10 rebounds. Wilson Fiallos assisted James with a 22 points and 6 rebounds performance.  Les was third in command on the stat sheet finishing with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.  Tony Bell rounded the top 4 performers for I Ball with a 11 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists performance to help his team come away with a narrow win. 

As always the Dynasty had a balanced offensive attack with Holden leading the way with 23 points and 8 rebound performance.Tren finished the game as the teams second leading scorer with 18 points and 2 rebounds. Walter was the third leading scorer with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Bui “The Matrix” Tut rounded out the scoring quartet with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

Washed Up vs. Play Makerz

DIVISION 1

In the “Game of the Week” Washed Up finds a way to hold off a very talented Play Makerz team by a score of 73 – 62 in a match up of the #1 and #3 seed.

Johnnie Green notched a team-high 28 points pulled in 7 rebounds. Amos Battle chipped in 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Carl Hardin and Aesh Dabbas finished with 6 points to round out the scoring quarter of the Play Makerz.

For the second game  this season, leading MVP candidate Johnny Earl (28.0 ppg) took a backseat to Dre who was the teams leading scorer in the Week 5 game. Michael Earl finished with 19 points and 5 rebounds . Johnny Earl was the teams third leading scorer, he finished with 18 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Justin rounded out the scoring trio with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists.

 

The Alliance vs. Tupac Back

DIVISION 1

The Alliance get their second win of the season by defeating Tupac back 81 – 64 in their Week 5 showdown.

Jordan Block led the way for Tupac Back with 27 Points and 10 rebounds, Eric finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Jeff Allen rounded out the top 3 scorers with 10 points and 1 rebound.

The Alliance team was led by Ralph Chavez who finished with 32 points, 15 rebounds. Jaime Villalobos  finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Jimmy Nguyen was the teams 3rd leading scorer with a very quiet 19 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. Aaron Sanchez rounded out the scoring load with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. 

Morningwood vs. West Coast Pros.

DIVISION 1

Morningwood rallies behind the leadership of Marcus Pringle and escape with a 57 – 55 victory over the West Coast Pros. The funny thing about this game is that it was not supposed to be this close. The West Coast Pros. played the entire game with 4 players and was fired up from the get go at the simple fact that they knew Morningwood would take them lightly. 

Rich Cobarrubias led all Morningwood scorers with 13 points 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Cobarrubias also tipped in the game winning shot to help Morningwood defeat the West Coast Pros. Dewayne O’Neal was the teams second leading scorer, with 9 points and 8 boards. Andrae “Liddo Man” Lockett was the third leading scorer with 7 points.

Charles Grays led the way for West Coast with 21 points and 7 rebounds,  Daimon Fleming was the second leading scorer with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Fleming also came away with 5 steals. Laron Merriner rounded out the scoring quartet with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Week 5

The Parody in Division 2 Continues, no team is undefeated. The top 4 teams have alternated losses to each other. The majority of the action is at the top of the standings, to keep it simple, the teams at the top of the standings win while the teams at the bottom do the opposite.

With the announcement that all teams make the playoffs, I think most games lost their competitive edge and most teams aren’t worried about Winning/Losing since they get a chance in the playoffs regardless.

The playoffs are only 3 weeks away, team GM’s should make a conscious effort to request a team above them in the standings and try to earn the tiebreaker, because seeding will be very important in the playoffs.

5 Guys 1 Cup vs. Warriors

DIVISION 2

The Warriors hold off 5 Guy 1 Cup in a thriller and escape with a 58 – 57 win, in the first game of the day.

5 Guys 1 Cup, had a very balanced offensive attack with Jhoaun finishing with a team high, he logged in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Alex Hernandez assisted Jhoaun finishing with 13 points and 3 rebounds. Castro was the third leading scorer with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

George Gerardo had a monster game for his team. He led the Warriors in the scoring column and finished with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Lester Cole was the his teams second leading scorer with 16 points,11 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists. Ray Sanchez finished with 10 points and 2 steals to round out the top performers for the Warriors.

The Revenge vs. UKnow

DIVISION 2

UKnow climbs further in the standings after defeating the then 3-1 Revenge team by a score of 61 – 47.

The Revenge was led by Armondo who finished with 11 points, 3 rebounds, Derrick Okoth was the teams second leading scorer  with 8 points and 1 rebound, Adarsh Ghadi and Hassan Ahmed rounded out the scoring load with 7 points and 5 assists.

Jordan “Mr.Double-Double” Block led all scorers for the game with  27 points and 8 rebounds. Anthony Cockrell assisted Block with the scoring load and finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and dished 1 assist out, with the recipient of that assist being Block. Jonathan Redmond rounded out the scoring trio with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

X-Men vs. Happy Hour

DIVISION 2

The X-Men defeat Happy Hour 55 – 47 behind a huge game from Darren Smith.

Darren Smith led all X-Men scorers for the game with 31 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Smith had himself a very great game statistics wise. He also shot 11/24 from the field. (46%) Chris Smith finished with 9 points and a team high 14 rebounds. Oscar Pacheco rounded out the scoring trio with 6 points and 5 rebounds.

Greg Santos and John led the way for Happy Hour,  Both players finished with 10 points apiece. John also pulled in 9 rebounds. Tim Recinto assisted Santos and John with the scoring load and finished with 8 points and 5 boards. James Reyes rounded out the top 3 scorers, he finished with 6 points and 3 rebounds.

DX vs. Wet Bandits

DIVISION 2

The Wet Bandits defeat DX 82 – 48 behind a huge game from Brandon Parham and Demetrius Watson.

Chris McKeon finished with a team high, he logged in 13 points and 10 rebounds. J.Diaz also finished with 13 points, Eric Fernandez finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds while Pierce Mayoral rounded out the top scorers with 6 points and 9 rebounds.

Brandon Parham and Demetrius Watson led the Wet Bandits in the scoring column, both players finished with 20 points apiece. Parham pulled in 14 rebounds while Watson managed to grab 6 of those boards. Assisting Parham and Watson was Brett Miyamoto, Miyamoto finished with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Jesse rounded out the scoring quartet finishing with 12 points and 3 rebounds.

Han$um Goonz vs. Secret Agents

DIVISION 2

The Secret Agents hold off the Hand$um Goonz 57 – 55 in a nail bitter. This game went back and forth but a bad pass by the hand$um goonz cost them the game and allowed Terral Thomas iced the game at the line.

Aaron Bell (17 points, 5 rebounds), Lavar Jackson (15 points, 5 rebounds) Odis Wishum (10 points, 8 rebounds) were the top 3 performers for the Goonz. Marcus Dillard rounded out the scoring load with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Teron Mack led all Secret Agent scorers with 16 points and 3 rebounds. Terral “T-Time” Thomas was the teams second leading scorer,  filling up many statistical columns. Thomas finished 15 points, 3 rebounds,  and 5 steals. Darryial Morris finished with 7 points, 4 rebounds. Lonnie Bradshaw rounded out the scoring load with 7 points and 5 rebounds.

Quiksilver vs. Wonton Soup

DIVISION 2

Wonton Soup shows that they’re still the better team, as they defeat Quiksilver 64 – 50 in a rematch of Season 5’s championship game. To this day Wonton Soup and Quiksilver are the only teams to hoist a Division 2 trophy. Quiksilver won the inaugural championship and Wonton Soup has won the championship every season since. 

With the teams leading scorer Harry Yoo having his worst game of the season. Quiksilver was led by Brandon “B-Random” Kinard who finished with 17 points.Harry Yoo finished with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Domo Criss rounded out the top 3 scorers with 6 points and 5 rebounds.  

For the first time in a long time, Wonton Soup actually had a balanced offensive attack,  Josh “Goldust” Johnson was the teams leading scorer with 10 points and 2 assists. Aaron Sanchez,  Matt Achucarro, and Jamal and finished with 9 points apiece, Sanchez pulled in 7 rebounds, however it wasn’t the double-double performance we are accustomed to seeing. Jaime Villalobos and Desean Collins rounded out the top 6 scorers with 8 points apiece.

Double Dribble vs. California Raisins

DIVISION 2

Double Dribble and the Raisins square off with Double Dribble coming out on top in a 76 – 57 romping of the Raisins.  Double Dribble seems to be playing their best basketball, but when aren’t they? Their problem has never been the regular season, nor has it been the playoffs, the only thing standing between Double Dribble and a division championship is the champs Wonton Soup who has eliminated DD in their last 3 postseason appearances, none more hurtful than the first, which was in the Division Championship in Season 3. The Raisins fell to Wonton in the season 4 Championship game.

Andrae “Liddo Man” Lockett left us with a performance nothing short of amazing, he led all Double Dribble scorers  with 25 points shooting 7/9 from 3-point range. Diahnte “D-Smooth” Pickett assisted his teammate and finished with 16 points, and 5 rebounds. Jesse Jimenez and Derrick Pickett rounded out the top 4 scorers with 9 points apiece.

The Raisins were led in scoring by Dominic “Tiger Blood” Cortes he finished with a team high 27 points and 6 rebounds. Korey “Kowop” Davis was the second leading scorer with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Kevin Chow and Ezekiel “Eazy” Kim was the third leading scorers with 7 points apiece.

Nut Krackerz vs. #JETS

DIVISION 2

The Nut Krackerz fall to the #JETS, by a score of 72 – 54. The Nut Krackerz need to be more consistent, they’re alternating win/loss with every week that goes by. They are a talented team but they should really stop shooting 3 point shots (4/14 this game) and feed the ball to Elias Salloum in the post. On the #JETS side of things we can only help but wonder what their record would look like if they had not found Joe-Joe. Not only is Joe-Joe an offensive weapon, he is also efficient, 30 points on 12/13 shooting.

The young man with the sweet lefty stroke Joe-Joe led the #JETS in scoring for the fourth consecutive week with 30 points and 6 rebounds, on 12/13 shooting from the field. He also garnered POTW honors with that performance. Anthony finished with 15 points, and 4 rebounds. Jarvous rounded out the scoring trio with 12 points, 7 rebounds. Fresh off his birthday weekend, Ricky Figueroa returned to IBL play and finished with 7 points and 6 rebounds.

Elias Salloum led all Nut Kracker scorers and finished with a team high, 12 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Delfino and Donnie Santos  assisted Salloum with the scoring and finished with 9 points apiece . Solin Bit and Ryan Reyes finished with 6 points apiece to round out all scorers.

DIVISION 3

We are now passed the midway point of the season, with all teams making the playoffs the big question is “Who lands where?” UKnow V.2 and the Pantera Legends are battling it out for the #1 seed while the eventual loser of the race to the #1 seed will have to battle it out with the Dirty Homies for the #2 seed. The team that is indeed flying under the radar is the Justice League they sit at 3-1 in the #4 spot after a Week 5 bye, and pretty much control their own destiny as to where they will end up after all Week 7 games are played.

Pantera Legends vs. Prospectz

DIVISION 3

With their Week 5 71 – 62 win over the Prospectz, the Pantera Legends move to the #1 spot in the division with UKnow 2.0’s loss. Since their week 3 loss to UKnow 2.0 the Legends have been on a tear. Last Season’s MVP of the Division Dylan Liebelt has finally regained his swagger and is leading the way for this team, Anthony Barajas and Alvin Trinh are holding the front court down, while Richard Hak is leading the division in assists for the 2nd straight season. The Legends problem has and will be the play of their bench.

For the second consecutive week the Pantera Legends were led in scoring by last seasons MVP Dylan Liebelt,  Liebelt finished with a game high 24 points and 4 rebounds and dished out 1 assist. Anthony Barajas was the second leading scorer for his team with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Richard Hak and RJ Victorio rounded out the top 3 scorers with 8 points apiece. Hak finished  with 5 assists, while Victorio pulled in 7 rebounds.

David led the Prospectz with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. assisting David was the Anthony , Anthony finished with 9 points and a team high 7 rebounds. Joel Torres also finished with 9 points and 2 rebounds while Chris Adevoso rounded out the scoring quartet with 8 points, shooting 3/7 from the field.

Dirty Homies vs. Brea Jr. 7:30

DIVISION 3

The Dirty Homies take care of Brea Jr. 7:30 with a 52 – 36 Week 5 win. Since the addition of Charlie Hinojosa the Dirty Homies have been the third hottest team in the league with a 3-1 record. Hinojosa is an atheltic big man who can run the floor and makes a perfect target for PG Jesse Jimenez to hit on a fast break.

Charlie Hinojosa led all Dirty Homie scorers with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Hinojosa. Jesse Jimenez finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Martin was the third leading scorer with 9 points and 2 rebounds. Jesus “Chuy” Contreras rounded out all scorers with 6 points and a game high 16 rebounds.

Won Lee led all Brea Jr. 7:30 scorers with 15  points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist. David Lee assisted Won Lee with 12 points and 12 rebounds to record his first double double of the season. Dan Chung rounded out the scoring trio with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Max Chung was absent from the scoring column but managed to pull in 12 boards.

Prospectz vs. The Bankers

DIVISION 3

The Prospectz take care of the Bankers 64 – 57, in a heated showdown with in my opinion the Divisions M.I.P Joel Torres garnering POTW honors for Week 5.

Alex led all Banker scorers with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Justin assisted Alex and finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Jerry rounded out the scoring trio with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Joel Torres garnered POTW honors after he led the Prospectz with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Assisting Torres was David who finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assist and 4 steals.  Anthony  rounded out the scoring trio with a quiet 13 points and 3 boards.

UKnow V.2 vs. Young Money

DIVISION 3

Young Money capitalizes on UKnow 2.0’s lethargic effort and come away with a 62 – 50 win. Robel Kevorkian had his best game after jumping ship mid way through the season. Looks like things are finally working out for Young Money.

Young Money  was led by Robel “Roblaze” Kevorkian who finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds to record his first double-double as a member of Young Money. Zeke “Nico” Benedetti was the teams second leading scorer with 10 points. Aaron Ford was the third leading scorer 10 points and 8 rebounds. The spark for Young Money came off the bench with Mark, Mark rounded out the scoring load with 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals.

On the UKnow v.2 side of things were balanced as they have been all season, Dominique Beebe led all scorers with 11 points and 2 assists. Desean Collins finished with 10 points, while Brandon Kinard tried to keep his team in the game with 9 points and 2 rebounds.

Bombers vs. Primetime

DIVISION 3

With the return of Kevin Lim to the line-up, Primetime defeats the Bombers by a score of 67 – 54.  Kevin Lim is one of the better shooters in the Division, he is pretty much automatic from 3-point range, if the league decides to hold a 3-point contest in the near-future Lim deserves an invite.

Jimmy G. led all Bomber scorers with 19 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Blue assisted Jimmy G. and finished with 9 points and 3 rebounds. Dre rounded out the scoring trio with 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Kevin Lim led the way for the Primetime, Lim finished with 22 points, and 4 rebounds, on 7/10 shooting from 3-point range. James assisted Lim with the scoring load and finished  with 11 points and 3 rebounds, Jr. Dizon rounded out the scoring load with 9 points and 1 rebound.
