#5 Young Bucks defeat the #10 Warriors but fall to the #1 Seed Double Dribble in the Semi-Finals


The #5 seeded Young Bucks take down the #10 seed Warriors in a nail bitter but the #1 seeded Double Dribble (8-0) take care of business beating the Young Bucks 92-70 to advance to the Division 2 Championship game.

QUARTERFINALS

YOUNG BUCKS vs. WARRIORS

The Warriors who were fresh off their opening round blowout victory over Booyah came with their full roster hoping to pull off another upset, where they had a size advantage against the Young Bucks.

The game featured many fast break baskets for both teams as little transition defense was played. No lead was bigger than 7 points for either team, when either team seemed to be making a run the other would answer back with a run of their own. As things got critical down the stretch the Warriors could not deliver as some late game missed field goal attempts crushed their chances for a semi finals appearance.

The game was a close match-up as the Warriors were making their comeback with plays from Kemoy Mathis who had a rebound and put back late in the game to keep it close also Louis and Lester Cole hitting from long distance brought the game close again and kept the Warriors in the game. But the Warriors fell short when their last-ditch 3 pointer to tie the game did not fall.

Young Bucks were led by Jason “Jaybron” Trinh led the way for the Bucks and had a game high (18 points), Robel Kevorkianadded 12 points to the mix while Kwasi Mensah (11 points) and Solin Bit (7 points, 5 rebounds) rounded off the top scorers for the team.

While on the Warriors side  Lester Cole led his team with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Kemoy Mathis added his usual 13 points with 9 rebounds. Louis Cole rounded out the scoring with 14 points.

Young Bucks defeat Warriors, 52 – 48.

SEMI FINALS

DOUBLE DRIBBLE vs. YOUNG BUCKS

After their victory over the Warriors the Young Bucks was set to square off against the fresh legs of the #1 seeded Double Dribble who was coming off a first round bye.

The game seemed close at the begining but the scoreboard never showed a lead going under 10 points. The offensive power of Double Dribble made it difficult for the Young Bucks to stay level-headed. Double Dribble had the size advantage and it showed from the opening from the opening tip when a Double Dribble player attempted a shot and Double Dribble big man Minh Thong rebounded the ball and put it back up for a second chance bucket.

With the absence of Jerry Jimenez, Double Dribble was led by younger brother Jesse who was a rebound and point short of his first triple double, Jesse finished the game with 9 points 9 rebound and 13 assists he was really a facilitator out there. One of his favorite targets was Minh Thong who finished with a game high 22 points and 10 rebounds

The scoring was spread throughout the team behind Thong; Steven Iem had (15 points), Hassan Ahmed (13 points) and Sareung Rougn added (10 points) to carry the scoring load. Team GM Jimmy Huynh finished with 6 points going 2-3 from beyond the arc. The Young Bucks were led by Solin Bit (22 points and 8 rebounds) Robel Kevorkian (11 points and 5 rebounds) and Jason Trinh (10 Points)
